Talkabout is a fantastic new resources designed to improve career development discussions and complement existing appraisal systems.
Talkabout allows organisations to provide both employees and their line managers with a clear structured process to make sure both individual and organisational future objectives can be identified, discussed and achieved.
The resource itself consists of two parts:
- A booklet containing a series of thought provoking exercises for individuals to complete prior to any career discussion /appraisal, to help them to get more from the process. Working through the resource helps employees to be more aware of; their skills, what motivates them in work and the pay offs that are important to them. This enables them to have a more informed discussion with their line manager and supports the creation of a ‘win-win’ scenario (marrying employee’s aspirations with organisational priorities) for moving forward.
- A corresponding one day training session for line managers to equip them with the skills they require to effectively facilitate these future-focussed development discussions.
Talk about is currently being used by organisations such as Royal liver Assurance and Norwich Union. Some organisations have also opted to brand the Talkabout resource with their own company logo.
‘the excellent design provides a clear structure to aid career discussions’
‘Talkabout encourages the individual to accept responsibility and take a more active part in the discussion’.
