STAR helps young people aged 14 to 19 to think about their work and life and move forward. STAR encourages young people to recognise that everyone is a star in their own right because we all have our own unique set of Skills, Treasures, Ambitions and Roles.
STAR consists of a set of unique and innovative resources that include interactive games and a DVD. These resources are complemented by high energy workshops that allow young people to think about and discuss their feelings, concerns and ambitions for the future.
The development of STAR was successfully funded by Careers Northwest from the Northwest Development Agency. This funding ensured that effective design and development took place as well as in-depth piloting with young people, schools, teachers and other agencies e.g. Connexions. Careers Northwest also helped to disseminate STAR via a number of launch events across the region. The project continues to support and endorse STAR as it moves forward in its next stages.
The AGR (Association of Graduate Recruiters) has also sponsored STAR. AGR is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting employers in all aspects of graduate recruitment. It represents over 600 organisations which between them offer a high proportion of the graduate opportunities in the UK. The AGR believes that STAR will enable young people to develop their career management and life planning skills and thus encourage many to become the graduates of the future.
